Sheila Bair, the former head of the FDIC wrote an article that recently appeared in Fortune Magazine. She has proposed one of the best ideas we've ever heard to reform the federal government and fix the main problem, the motivation of the members of Congress and the President. It's a democrat's nightmare but taps into the pay for performance philosophy, the same philosophy that a business uses to reward it's employees. If the employees (legislators) do a good job, they reap some extraordinary benefits: If they do a poor job then their compensation is cut. Here's a link to the article:
